Newsreel Post Production
Motion Picture Film Scanning, Colour Timing, Post Processing and Film Stabilization.
For films, big and small... amateur and professional alike.
Who are we?
Oliver Gläser is a professional Director of Photography and Camera Operator, and a member of the International Photographers Guild IATSE local 669, shooting in the Vancouver film industry (Hollywood North) and around the world. Newsreel Productions started as a film production company, but several years ago wanting to shoot more film and finding the costs prohibitive for his own independent projects, Oliver designed and built the first super 8mm / 8mm HD film scanners in Canada.
Built to exacting technical standards and meant to transfer professional quality footage, as soon as friends found out what he was doing, film started to come Oliver's way. Soon realizing that there was indeed a market for it and having perfected the process, Newsreel's Post Production and Motion Picture Film Transfer arm was born.
We are FIRST transfer facility for all 8mm (8mm, super8mm and Max8mm) formats transferring to 1920x1080** 4:2:2 HD frame by frame in Western Canada and the only ULTRA 16mm facility in Canada. Our transfer machines have been custom built for the purpose to achieve the sharpest, highest quality professional grade transfers available.
WE DO NOT TELECINE OR RECORD OFF A WALL!
You get what you pay for. There are cheaper services available, and some aren't even that bad, but the quality will not even come close to the sharpness and picture fidelity of Newsreel's transfers.
The Process:
All film is first cleaned and checked for broken splices. If damaged we repair the film as best we can at no additional cost for most small jobs.
Capturing to hard drives frame by frame in uncompressed HD, the footage is then processed, restored, colour corrected and output to Hard Drive in either uncompressed avi or Mpeg2 or both. With Newsreel, you get razor sharp, colourful, beautiful footage where every grain is in focus. Your film will not be cropped (losing valuable image area), there is no flicker. The image is bright and clear from corner to corner with no hot spots or vignetting. The work is done to a FILM INDUSTRY STANDARD.
We are a Kodak recognized professional supplier of film services1080p High Definition has 6x the resolution and colour of standard definition yet our service's cost are comparable to a standard, SD frame by frame or telecine transfer.
Prices for Transfer start at $0.40 per foot (for silent reversal). There are no setup fees. This is not a Telecine, or cheap "projector against a wall and film it with a video camera transfer" . We SCAN EACH AND EVERY FRAME OF FILM AND TRANSFER EACH FRAME TO A DISTINCT FRAME OF VIDEO... We know we are not the cheapest service for film scanning, nor are we the most expensive, but we are the best and we strive to exceed customers expectations for every single job, big or small.
